Following the devastation of Hurricane Melissa, the United Rosetta Miriam Project (URMP) team headed to the parish of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, to provide urgent relief to families facing incredible hardships. While the storm left behind flooding and damaged homes, it could not dampen the resilient spirit of the community.
Delivering Essential Supplies
Our mission in St. Elizabeth focused on meeting the most immediate needs of residents. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the hard work of our volunteers, we were able to distribute:
Nutritious Food Packages: Essential groceries and non-perishables to ensure families have healthy meals during this recovery period.
Clothing and Shoes: Clean, comfortable apparel for children and adults who lost their belongings to the wind and rain.
Hygiene Kits: Necessary items to help maintain health and dignity in the aftermath of the disaster.
A Community United
Seeing the smiles and hearing the stories of the people in St. Elizabeth reminds us why we do this work. One resident shared how the torrential rains destroyed their small farm, making these food supplies a vital lifeline. This effort is more than just a distribution; it is a message to our brothers and sisters in St. Elizabeth that they are not alone.
How You Can Continue to Support
The road to recovery is long, and our work in Manchester and St. Elizabeth is far from over. We are still actively raising funds to assist with home repairs and support for local farmers.
Donate: You can contribute directly via our Hurricane Melissa Relief fundraiser.
Spread the Word: Share our mission with your friends and family to help us reach more people in need.
Together, we can help Jamaica rebuild stronger than ever.
